Deuter, a brand that has been pioneering premium outdoor equipment since its founding in 1898, has come a long way from providing the Bavarian Royal Mail with mailbags and post sacks to being used in mountaineering expeditions.
In 1938, German mountain climber Anderl Heckmair brought along a Deuter backpack when he led the first successful ascent of the North Face of the Eiger. Fifteen years later, Deuter was with Austrian mountaineer Hermann Buhl and his crew when they conquered Nanga Parbat in Pakistan, the ninth highest mountain in the world.
I first came across Deuter when I saw it at Chris Sports in Glorietta a couple of years ago. It caught my eyes because of the close similarity to my name. At the time, it was easy to recognize that the bags are made for the outdoors but what impressed me was its lightness.
Deuter bags use light yet very durable materials. I won't get into the specifics but if you're looking to get yourself one, better read up here so you'll know exactly what you need: http://www.deuter.com/us/us/materials-1558.html
During Deuter's grand opening of its concept store at the SM Maill of Asia, I got to see a wide variety of bags, small and large, even wash bags and security wallets.
And then there are some other items available in-store for your complete outdoor needs.
It uses Ripstop 210/Ballistec material and weights just 2950g. I'll write more about this bag in a separate post, including its AirComfort System that reduces perspiration by 25 percent and straps that distribute the weight evenly.
There are others during the launch who were just as impressed as I was with Deuter bags.
