Yo, year 4000, know how awesome the 21st century is? Two words: #oscars #selfie

Some 2,000 years from now, when future mankind looks back into humanity's early foray into this generation's "advanced" technology, they will see this:

I can't even begin to describe how awesome this photo is. The moment I saw Oscar 2014 host Ellen DeGeneres (https://twitter.com/TheEllenShow), white smartphone in hand to match her white suit, walking down the aisle of the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, I knew she was going for a selfie.

But who knew it would be something as great as this?

Nine minutes after Ellen posted the photo in her Twitter timeline and already had 92,000 retweets!

I wanted to see how many retweets it got in just a minute but I kept getting this:

Eventually, I was able to monitor how much retweets it got every few minutes or so:

11 minutes after: 140,000 RTs

12 minutes after: 160,000 RTs

 13 minutes after: 190,000 RTs

16 minutes after: 270,000 RTs

39 minutes after: 630,000 RTs

42 minutes after: 720,000 RTs

At this rate, it seems to be on track of being the photo with a million RTs in just an hour!

So how awesome was the 21st century? We knew how to have fun.

UPDATE:

50 minutes after: 960,000 RTs

FINALLY:

I had just finished making the update above when I refreshed Ellen's timeline and wow!

52 minues after: 1,100,000 RTs

More than 1 million people all over the world agree that this is the "Best photo ever". It has broken the previous record held by President Barack Obama (@BarackObama) after being re-elected in 2012.
