THREE local photographers went around the country and took pictures depicting how the Internet has become a valuable tool in the everyday lives of Filipinos.
Model-turned-photographer Jo Ann Bitagcol, Apple Tapan from the renowned family of photographers, and fashion and adventure lensman Jake Verzosa captured through their cameras Smart Communications, Inc.’s belief that the Internet should be for everyone.
“The Internet is the new cellular,” said Smart chief wireless adviser Orlando Vea during the recent launch at the Grand Atrium of the Shangri-La Plaza Mall. “The Internet should be for all. Through this project, we hope to show different scenarios of how people are embracing the Internet because of the positive impact it can make on lives and communities.
Under the project, the three photographers traveled to 12 locations to capture images and stories of people and communities that have enjoyed the benefits of Internet connectivity. The places include Naga, Camarines Sur; Gingoog, Misamis Oriental; Barobo, Surigao del Sur; Baguio; Coron, Palawan; Malapascua, Cebu; Tagbilaran, Bohol; Polillo, Quezon; San Miguel, Bulacan; and NCR.
Having observed up close how the Internet has changed the way people live, the three photographers said that they are proud of being part of the project.
“The shoot assignments made me realize that communication has evolved,” Tapan said. “I can’t imagine our lives without the Internet.”
“I know that the Internet has greatly changed the way people live in general,” said Verzosa. “But the shoot made me see this in a different light and realize the possibilities for Filipinos in the future.
Bitagcol meanwhile said that her assignments in Misamis Oriental and in San Miguel, Bulacan made her realize the importance of the Internet in other fields such as in health and in the environment.
Guests during the launch also had the opportunity to try out the different ways to access the Internet via an interactive demo of Smart’s broadband products such as the Smart Bro Plug-it, Smart Bro Pocket Wifi and Smart microSIM.
