Early this year, I wrote a story ( about a then-eight-month-old baby, Lyka Masgay who was born with a congenital heart disease. Through the Israel Embassy, SACH (Save a Child's Heart) Foundation, and Lyka's family, the little angel was able to have an operation in Israel.

For the past few months, I've been thinking if I still wanted to continue writing stories for the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Since 2000, I've been writing about an assortment of topics for the paper whether it is for 2bU!, Arts and Books, and sometimes, even the News section. But I've been giving some thought to going back to writing about sports, tennis to be exact.

Yesterday, Lyka's family sent me an email of one very beautiful picture--that of Lyka, in the center of her loving parents, smiling the happiest smile I've ever seen. I've received letters from people I've written about before but this is the first time I've really felt so much love emanating from one picture.

The image of Lyka is so much different now. From a baby with tubes attached to her, she is now a beaming symbol of happiness and hope. Every child truly deserves to live and be given a chance in this world, the same chances that were given to each and every one of us. And I may not have had the foresight to wish for a gift as beautiful as this, but it is a gift that I will treasure forever.

So you'll continue writing a variety of topics?

Maganda rin ang mga Christmas list na lumalabas ngayon. My friend got a call from her sis-in-law about her gift choices. She liked neither, and told them what they wanted, which was within their budget.

  2. Christmas gift sa atin lahat to. Good news kase, mirakulo sya. And how did you meet them?

Makes me thankful for my life talaga.

Abt Lyka Masgay, yes she is really a miracle&the most precious gift every parent can ask.I've been with them from the very beggining so i've seen how their hardships were&i really adore how her parents support each other even when things have been sooo bad. They never give up&never lost Hope&we can't thank God enough for their admirable courage to go through it.Life is terminal&only he knows one's earthly travel comes to its closure.Hence, each life must be lived each day at a time& moments are savored not only on Christmas day but all throughout our respective journeys.Again for your never ending love&care&we hope you'll continue also to write about other issues like this.We pray that Gdhealth,Love,Peace&Enough Understanding be with us all&always.

With God's grace, all is well. We know that THANK YOU isn't enough to say how grateful we are to all those who joined us in prayers and who helped us in their own ways, here in Israel and around the world. We know that we can never repay all those good deeds, but we only have one thing to assure you, GOD SAW ALL THE HELP YOU DID.

More power to your blog site.

@wei, yup.. i won't turn my back on those who need help especially when i can do something about it.. so yeah, i'll probably continue writing about a variety of topics.. :) met them through the Israel Embassy.. :)

@Remy, Ms. Remy, thank you very much for your kind words.. what you did for Lyka is much more important as it set things in motion.. you should be proud of yourself for that :)

I do agree with you that life is indeed temporary and that it's only when we do good things for others--and not just for ourselves--that we really make the most out of it. i promise you that I will continue writing about people whose stories are as inspiring as this.

@Vixen, God truly is good. what happened here is proof that God works through us all and that we need only to be aware of His presence and listen to His instructions for His goodness to work.

Happy Holidays to us all :)
